Luke 10:41-42

But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and distracted by many things; there is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part, which will not be taken away from her.”

I could describe my life as a set of concentric distractions.
I start out doing one thing and am interrupted by another, and then another and so on. I often wake up and think, "What I am meant to be doing today?" It sometimes feels as if I have "lost the thread" of my life. It's not that these distractions and interruptions have no merit or claim on my life. They have a place. But they can shift my focus away from my call.
When that happens I need to reset myself and start back working on the "one thing" I am called to. Jesus' words to Martha aren't unkind but they have an edge to them.
He is calling her to better choices. Calling her also to see that Mary's choice is more aligned with the kingdom of God than her own. I wonder how she managed with this?
