1 Corinthians 1:26-29

Consider your own call, brothers and sisters: not many of you were wise by human standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose what is low and despised in the world, things that are not, to reduce to nothing things that are, so that no one might boast in the presence of God.

We are not notable for what we know. None of us have any great claim to a comprehensive understanding of how God works. Think back on your own life in faith. Were you convinced to follow Jesus solely because someone made a convincing intellectual case to you? God chose us. Our call is to point to the presence of God in Christ. It's not about what we know. It's more about who we know. It's even more than that. It's about who knows us! It starts with God. The God who knows us through Jesus Christ.

Finance Report FY19

Our 2019 Financial Year has drawn to an end and I am pleased to announce that we finished the year in the BLACK for the first time in many years. Whilst our Income was 20% down against FY18, prudent management ensured our expenditure was also down by 30.5%. The results for FY19 was; Income $117,862 and expenditure $106,602. On behalf of Church Council, THANK YOU to everyone who has contributed to achieving this result, enabling Balhannah to continue serving God within our community.
Also congratulations to the BALOAK Carols committee who again managed to secure sufficient sponsorship to fully cover the costs of running this event for our community.
As previously advised Church Council have now set a budget for FY20 which has allowed for an increase in Expenditure of 5%. For us to meet our break-even budget target it is vitally important that everyone gives on a regular basis in accordance with your own individual abilities and as an acknowledgment of God's blessings in your life. Have you considered setting up a direct debit Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT), this will assist us enormously in managing our cash-flow. Last Year Church Council decided to transfer our books over to Synod's Bookkeeping Unit which we are currently in the process of doing. With ever increasing complex legal financial requirements we believe our books need to be in the hands of those with the specific skills and up-to-date knowledge to ensure we are legally compliant. I wish to acknowledge Jodi Lisk for the work she has undertaken over the past few years in the role of Treasurer in managing this important function on our behalf to the best of her abilities - Thank You.
If you wish to discuss our finances in more detail please don't hesitate to speak with me.
'You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God'. 2 Cor. 9:11 (NIV)

Songbird Singing Classes at Balhannah

We are starting a joint project with Kathy Pike to offer singing classes to women in the Hills. This partnership will give the opportunity for women to rediscover their singing voices in a safe and supportive environment. Kathy's emphasis is to let women find peace, recreation and healing through singing together. We will have more details next week but at this stage we are looking at a weekly class on a Monday Evening from 7.00pm to 8.30pm starting later this month. If you are interested then contact Geoff.
