Luke 3:46-48

And Mary said, “My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has looked with favor on the lowliness of his servant. Surely, from now on all generations will call me blessed;”

The key point of this passage, part of a song often called “the Magnificat”, is that Mary is an insignificant, unimportant, yet still willing participant in shaping the history of our world. She neither asked for this, not worked for it. God did this. God placed her life at risk, and shaped the course it would take from that point on. And she said, “YES!”

We can relate to Mary. Most of us don’t get the life we want, hope or ask for. The circumstances of our lives change and fold and push us on and under. Can we be like Mary and say “YES!” to this?
